Actually it's your digestion that makes sugar. Contrary to popular belief, humans "run" on sugar. It's the fuel for cells. That's the reason that people will eat a candy bar or drink a soft drink to get a quick burst of energy.

The problem becomes that you put too much "pure" sugar into your body that precipitates the disorder known as Diabetes. The pancreas controls how much sugar is in the blood at any given moment. When you eat any food, it is converted into sugar so it becomes an issue about how quickly the sugar is made.

Proteins are the toughest foods to convert, so it is the best source of sustainable "even flow" sugar. Next are the carbohydrates, and then the easiest are the simple sugars. For sustainable sugar levels, you must eat a balanced meal with a protein, a couple of carbohydrates, and very little simple sugar.

This is the reason that our grandparents ate a breakfast of eggs and bacon with toast and Orange Juice. There was tremendous protein (sustainable fuel) with a carbohydrate (mid range fuel) and a bit of sugar (quick energy). Speaking of, the "juice glass" was six ounces..about half a glass today. This meal provided a long term, quality energy that lasted throughout the morning with no need for a snack.

To control your blood sugar, you must have an even flow of sugar in your system. The pancreas gets worn out trying to control huge amounts of sugars like when you drink regular soft drinks. Plan what you eat to make sure that you have enough nutrients to make your body work right.

Is diabetes a disease where the individuals do not make enough hormone insulin?

Diabetes is the inability of the body to remove sugar from the blood stream and convert it to a substance that can be stored in cells. The accumulation of sugar is what starts causing all the problems of diabetes. The conversion of sugar is done with the help of insulin which is created in part of the pancreas. People who don't generate sufficient insulin will have an accumulation of sugar in the blood. They have to reduce or eliminate the intake of sugar or they can obtain and inject insulin into their body to accomplish the job. Another version of diabetes is a result of insulin resistance. The body does generate insulin but the body is unable to use it to convert the sugar in the blood. No amount of insulin injection can help with this.
