It depends:
A rotary piccolo is held differently; with a finger hook for your left hand little finger and a thumb grip. Your right hand has another finger hole but is used only for page turns.
A normal pic is held with two fingers of the left hand wrapped around the valve casing and the other two around the third valve slide. On the right hand, your little finger goes under the fourth valve or in the finger hook, and your thumb wherever feels comfortable resting against the first valve casing.
You hold a piccolo Trumpet the same way you would hold any other trumpet: left hand holding the weight of the trumpet by gripping the valve casings, fingers of the right hand resting on the valves. The only difference is that your pinky will be on a valve instead of flapping in the breeze.
A piccolo is held the same as a Flute. You put your left hand around the front of the piccolo (the side that is not facing you), and your right hand stays on the side that is nearest your face. Your left index finger goes on the first key, your middle finger goes on the second key (there should be two key slightly underneath this key), and your ring finger goes on the third key. Your left pinky then goes on the long key that sticks out (it sort of looks like a Golf club :) ). Your right index finger goes on the next key, the first one after the "golf-club" shaped key. Your middle finger goes on the key next to that one (second after the "golf-club" key), and your right ring finger goes on the next key. Your right pinky goes on the key at the very very end of the piccolo. On the side (at the front of the body, not the mouth piece) of the piccolo there are two more keys. Your thumb goes on them (which key depends on the fingering for the specific note). Here is an image to help: http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/5052531/210460-main_Full.jpg
