I lost the wiring colors codes but it's fairly easy. The key is to find out what the color codes are for the vehicle your connecting the radio to. After that, yellow and red wires on the 2500 are your positive and negative, and the remaining wires are Speaker wires - FRONT Left, FRONT Right, REAR Left, REAR right. Once your power wires are connected just connect speakers to each set of matching color wires and mark which speaker comes on.

You can, but it's hard because you may short wires because the pins on the wiring harness socket is small and easy to short out on other pins if the wires fray.
Source level adjust. For instance if your tuner is louder than cd player you would turn up sla on cd player.
I suspect you mean why do need to set the clock of the pioneer deh 1550? If this is the case the problem is that there is a wire that comes out of the radio that must have power all the time, that wire is for the memory. You also didn't state if the radio preset stations have to be reset also. This would also be an indication that the memory is not powered up when the key is off.

With stereo OFF...Push and hold the round "D-Pad" for a few seconds, then use the up down left right controls to set time.
