How do you check transistor by multimeter?

a BJT may be tested as two diodes using the ohms scale. a FET cannot be tested with just a multimeter.

Does a digital multimeter have a built-in voltage standard?

No, a digital multimeter, in most cases, does not have a built-in voltage standard which is why, if you are using it for calibrated work, it needs to be calibrated professionally. I am a Field Service Engineer and have been in the electronics field for about 30 years and I've always used calibrated multimeters (usually calibrated by an outside source).

Dos and don'ts to ensure the safety of multimeter?

Do: Each time you do an ohms test using an analog multimeter, touch the two probes together and use the calibration dial to "zero it out." For a digital multimeter, touch the probes together and it automatically calibrates itself. Donot: Don't switch multimeter functions while the meter is energized.
