Need to know what year, vehicle and engine you have. Each make and engine has a different firing order and also number the cylinders differently.

If you mean that the wire came out of the boot, then pull the boot off of the spark plug and use a spark plug socket to remove the spark plug.

take a test light. ground the test light to the battery then take the test light and move it around the suspect spark plug if the plug wire or spark plug are cracked or defect the spark will go to the test light and you will see the spark. if you don't see any spark its not broken.You can also use CheckSpark to quickly evaluate all your plugs and identify bad plugs and wires in seconds.

Spark Plug Wires? Remove them 1 at a time from the spark plug to the distributor or the ION pack, remove and replace the spark plug, add the new spark plug wire from the newly added spark plug to the distributor or ION pack.
Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug. Use some heavy gloves or a set of insulated pliers to hold the spark plug wire about 1/4-inch from the engine block (ground) and crank the engine - you should see a spark jump from the wire to the engine ground. For a better check, use another spark plug and put it on the spark plug wire and use it as a "jumper" from the wire to the engine ground.

Defective spark plug? Defective plug wire?
Used proper sized spark plug socket with long extention and ratchet. Disconnect spark plug wire by using wire puller or tugging at boot of wire. Place spark plug socket over spark plug securely and removed.
You can check for spark by removing the plug wire from the spark plug and holding it about 1/4 inch from ground. Have some one crank the engine or pull the starter rope and look for a spark to jump from the spark plug wire to ground. DO NOT hold the wire with your bare hands since you will get shocked. If you have spark there, remove the spark plug and insert it into the end of the spark plug wire and do the same procedure. If there is no spark, the plug is bad. If you have spark, the problem lies elsewhwere.
