Sadly, no, since the iPod Nanos will not take powerpoints, word documents, and many other things, and iTunes won't help you do it either.
To properly link references in Word documents, you can use the "Insert Hyperlink" feature. Navigate to your picture, click Put your picture in memory by selecting it (wherever it is) pressing Ctrl+C Paste into Word by changing to that program and press Ctrl+V
