There are many ways I will describe two:

  1. On the Insert Tab (if you are using Word 2010,otherwise the Insert MENU) choose >Picture > From File. Navigate to your picture, click
  2. Put your picture in memory by selecting it (wherever it is) pressing Ctrl+C

    Paste into Word by changing to that program and press Ctrl+V
