The mounting plate for a ceiling light is designed to be mounted to a round or octagonal ceiling box. Very often these can be installed in existing structures without too much trouble. Without the box it is a code violation. Splices must be in enclosures and hanging loose in the ceiling doesn't qualify.

If you do not have a box in the ceiling, you might consider installing a box ON the ceiling. It would be only 1 to 1 1/2 inches deep. Your splices would be safely inside. These boxes are typically used in outside installations and come in white or gray and take paint nicely so no one may ever notice. This type of installation is acceptable if the box is properly mounted.

How do you replace a fan's light bulb?

It depends on the type of fan, whether it is a range hood, bathroom fan, or room ceiling fan. There are several ways they are mounted as explained below. Preferably the power to the fixture in question should be off. 1. If there are thumb screws near the cover (mainly on range hoods and some light only ceiling fixtures), you would remove them. Then you would unscrew the old bulb and screw in the new one. Then you would put the thumb screws back in. 2. This may be just for a light-only fixture, but if the fixture is recessed and the cover is almost completely flush with the ceiling, you would pry it from the ceiling. Then you would replace the bulb. Getting the reataining springs back in may be tricky, and you would need to protect your eyes from debris up in the ceiling. 3. With most bathroom fans that use a square acrylic light cover, you would press into each side and pull it loose. Then you would replace the bulb and snap the cover back on. 4. If you mean a standard ceiling fan, it depends. For most, you would simply unscrew the old bulb and screw a new one in. For others, there are retaining screws holding the globe on, and for a few, the globe unscrews. 5. For a few ceiling fans, you don't replace the bulb, but replace the entire lamp kit. To do that, you remove the 3 screws from the plate above the light kit to drop it down, then disconnect the wiring (cap off the wires from the fan until you are finished), remove the light kit from the plate by loosening the nut. Then follow the instructions with the new light kit and undo the previous steps to reassemble the lower part of the fan with the new light kit.

Does the circuit box have one side for neutral and the other side for ground?

No, a circuit box is just a metal or plastic box that encloses the wiring and has means for mounting a cover plate. Most circuit boxes are for mounting outlets or switches, but one type (also called the junction box) is only intended as a junction point for wiring for multiple circuits and its cover plate is solid (no openings). The wires that pass through a circuit box (usually together in a common plastic jacket) will be identified as:hot - black (220VAC service opposite phase hot - red)neutral - whiteground - green

What is flush mounted electrical installation?

In this case, flush means even with. For example an electric box could be mounted on the outside of your wall and would be an eyesore. Flush mounting recesses the box inside the wall and provides a flush mount for the outlet cover plate.

What is the standard placement of bathroom light switches?

AnswerFor installations according to US and similar wiring codes: the level as other light switches in the rest of your house and next to the door opening. For installations according to UK wiring regulations: it is not permitted to position a normal shoulder-height light switch inside a bathroom.A switch for the light(s) in a bathroom, shower room or toilet can be positioned either 1) OUTSIDE the room at the level of other light switches in the rest of your house, next to the room's door opening, or 2) as a pull-switch mounted on the ceiling INSIDE the room, just inside the door opening. However, since the latest UK wiring regulations were issued, only a qualified and Licensed Electrician is allowed to install or modify electrical wiring in a bathroom, cloakroom/toilet, kitchen or any other kind of room where water taps ("faucets" in US parlance) sinks, baths, showers, etc. are installed. In the UK, a plate switch may be used if it outside the desigated zones (atleast 0.6m from the edge of the bath or shower and must be suitable for the location(IP rated)).a pull switch maybe mounted on the ceiling anywhere in the room NOT above the shower/bath.This does NOT apply for socket outlets which have to be a minimum of 3m from the bath/shower in the same room,Remember all new circuits MUST be RCD proteded in locations containing a bath or shower (other special locations apply!)

Installing A Ceiling Light?

Installing a Ceiling LightInstalling A Ceiling LightReplacing ceiling lights is sometimes a required task when you decide remodel a room or the light fixture has worn out with age. Installing a new ceiling light is a simple task that can be done by most homeowners without any outside help. The first thing to do before installing any light in your ceiling is to turn off the power at the circuit breaker. Since you will be working with electrical wiring, you do not want to take the chance of being shocked or electrocuted. After the power is turned off, unscrew the light bulb from the existing fixture and use a screwdriver take out the screws holding the fixture in place and connecting the wires to the fixture. When the fixture is off, attach a mounting plate to the ceiling light outlet box. Then attach the wires to the new ceiling light fixture. Connect the copper wires together and like colored wires together with wire nuts so that the fixture is properly grounded.Attach the base of the new fixture over the outlet box and tighten it up with screws. Once this is finished, screw the light bulb back into place and put a glass bowl over the bulb to cover it. Use bolts on sides of the fixture to secure the glass bowl in place.Once the fixture is securely in place, return to the circuit breaker. Turn back on the power and test out the light to ensure everything is installed correctly.
