Get a repair manual and follow directions. It is relatively simple. I am a 50 + year old grandmother. I was tired of waiting on someone to do it for me. I do not spend money unnecessarily, so I did it myself. Automotive parts store employees are generally pretty helpful when you ask questions. Remove the glove box. The front blower motor and the resistor can be accessed from there.
You see that knob you turn to run the blower? That's it.
Under the dash on the right side.
In the ceiling housing for the rear A/C.
On the blower housing. Remove the glove box to gain access.
There is really no method to "check" the resistor, text by substitution.
Held in by two small screws under dash.

Begin by removing the inside door panel of your 2001 Mercury Villager. Remove the window motor wiring harness. Remove the window motor linkage. Remove the window motor retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new window motor.
The Mercury Cougar blower motor is located on the firewall in the engine compartment. The blower motor can be seen on the passenger side of the firewall.
