If you have no cooler or refrigerator then you have to improvise. A wood box will work but you have to line the inside with a cloth. The more layers of wood the better. Grass in the box around the ice will help too. Wood is a good insulator because it traps air between it's layers. Trapped air is the basic principle of almost all insulation.

Try making a fan out of paper folding it acordian style and taping it at the bottom!
