You probably don't. The water pump is what circulates coolant through the
engine block and the cooling system. The engine will soon overheat if the pump
is not functioning. This is a bad thing ~

Drain the water from your 1989 Chevy Cavalier cooling system. Remove the water return hose from the water pump. Remove the water pump belt. Remove the water pump retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new water pump.
