Make him WORK near the gate. I'm talking loping (cantering) and trotting small circles, yeilding his hind and forequarters, anything that makes him exert himself near the gate, and rest at the other end. Of course, when he stops being gate sour, you can go back to working him normally. And try not to ever let him rest at the gate. dismount at the far end instead of at the gate and dont lead him straight to the pasture. Do some ground work or lunge him a little. something so he learns walking through the gate doesnt mean he gets to rest.

∙ 13y agoYou can simply dismount from a different part of the ring. Change where you dismount every time that way your horse doesn't pick one spot to hang around or stop at.
