How do you know if a horse is pregnant?

They won't show the signs of estrus, and they'll generally start getting fatter. A few weeks prior to giving birth, the colostrum begins to form and is visible on the teats ("waxing") and the muscles around the tailhead relax. However, there have been plenty of people who've been fooled into thinking their horse isn't pregnant only to find a foal one day.

Well first, if the mare has been with a stallion, and she has marks on her back like the hair is gone in a few spots or small cuts then there is a good chance she has been bred too. If she starts to act differently, like if she is snooty in a field with other horses makes them move she is showing more dominance then she also might be pregnant. Also if her stomach is swelling and if you wake up one morning with a baby horse next to her that's a pretty good clue.

If a mare is going to foal soon, she will get sweaty around her face and her back end and her milk-producing organs will get swollen (meaning they're full of milk and getting ready to feed the foal). She will also pace back and forth. Also her buttocks will be soft, meaning it wont be hard, it will be "jiggily".

She gets fat, and wont move often. When touching her, you may feel foals kicking the sides of her stomach as the move
