ask your engine see what it says
You engine has a chain and NOT a belt. No maintenance is necessary.
depending on what engine size you have, you may not have to change the timing belt! i went through this delimma with my 04' 4runner. i have the 4.0 V6 Engine and it turns out this engine has a TIMING CHAIN and not a timing belt! my mechanic told me the chain does not need changing unless it is rattling or making noise. i consider this GREAT news and $1,000 richer! if you have the 4.7 liter engine, then you DO have a timing belt and I would recommend buying a timing belt kit from eBay or amazon.com. this will save you big $$ over getting it from the dealership or from your local mechanic. hope this helps. If the engine runs rough after a timing belt change, the belt may not have been tightened properly. It may also mean that the wrong timing belt was installed. Either way, it needs to be taken back to the mechanic.
When I had my 97 Saturn I asked my mechanic that same question. I was told there is no timing belt on this car. The engine uses all gears.
I'm not a mechanic / technician but as far as I know there is no scheduled timing CHAIN change on an engine like there is on a timing BELT
Changing the timing belt should only be attempted by and experience mechanic. The directions are very detailed and complex. Not properly following the timing belt procedures can result in ruining the entire engine.
The price to change a timing belt on a Toyota Tacoma will depend on the mechanic fees. The prices for a timing belt start at $232.95.
I know of no vehicle where the engine has to be removed to change a timing belt.
There is no timing belt in that engine. It has a timing chain.
It does not have a timing belt, That engine has a timing chain and gears and they normally last the life of the engine.
If you have to ask take it to a mechanic.
