How do you know if a person really loves you?

This can be tricky, because there are lots of reasons why a person might pretend to love you when he or she actually doesn't. Men sometimes act purely on the basis of lust. Women may wish to make an advantageous match, by marrying a man who is financially secure. Sometimes people think they love someone but later decide that they don't, when they are already committed to the relationship and find it inconvenient to back out. Does this person care about your well being? There are endless numbers of ways in which we can be helpful or harmful, considerate or inconsiderate, generous or selfish in the way we deal with other people. You observe the sum total of this person's behavior, and see if his or her actions are consistent with his or her claims of loving you. And if you really like him/her, and you see countless actions of good, caring, and loving actions, you could always tell them.
