Snakes will not chase people, with one possible exception; The Black Mamba. Although it is yet to be proven beyond doubt that they are not just occasionally heading the same way when a person runs.

If it isn't dangerous, venomous, or aggressive, just leave it alone. If it is venomous and/or aggressive, you want to get away from it. Most snakes can't top 7 mph chasing someone and most won't continue to chase you.

Leaving it alone is the best way. Many people can not identify venomous from non venomous before we figure it out! Running away sometimes will not help. If you stay far form the snake it will have no reason to get offensive. Keep distance. Do not make sudden movements and sounds. Do not run away, walk away and leave it be.

Basic research ! Anyone who lives in a country that has naturally occurring venomous snakes should make themselves aware of what each species looks like so they can avoid them.

For example - here in the UK we only have one native venomous species - the European Adder (Vipera berus). It's a relatively small species - only reaching an average of 24 inches in length. Although its bite is painful, it is seldom fatal.

the cat would naturally be agitated and grumpy most of the time, but if it is going to attack, which is unlikely, then the cat will most probably hold its tail high in the air and sit in an attacking position.
