One possible answer is: The taillight will not be lit. Next: a voltmeter is useful to see if 12 volts in on the plus 12 volt supply wire to the lamp. If 12 volts is on the ground wire then the bulb is good but the ground wire is not tied to the ground circuits.
incorrect resistance of light bulbs installed. causes electrical feed back. replace all bulbs with factory replacement Also check that the tail light ground is ok. If the tail light bulbs aren;t grounded, it causes a backfeed of power to the dash lights and causes them to turn on.
I have the same problem, I don't know what to do.
You need to make sure the tail light assy. is grounded GOOD. Run the water hose around it and make sure it is NOT leaking inside on the board. You may just need to buy a new one from the CHEVY DEALER.
Generally, dash lights and tail lights are on the same fuse so that if the tail fuse blows you'll know. When the tail light was "smashed", it shorted out the circuit and blew the fuse. You need to fix the tail light before you can get the dash lights to work.
I had problems with a brake light constantly burning out. I finally re-grounded the tail light assembly and have not had a problem since. So perhaps the answer to your question is "you have a bad ground". Try it, it is an easy fix.
Check your tail lights they are probably out also. Most domestic cars power the dash lights off of the tail light circuit so you will know when the tail light fuse blows. Check the tail light fuse.
Well, the tail light housings need to be grounded. If these are mounted in the truck bed then grounding the truck bed will enable the lights to work. Current for lighting flows through one wire to the light, thru the filament and out to ground. You can test this by measuring voltage between the power wire and the truck bed. If you are grounded you should get ~12 V. Also test between the power wire and the frame. If you get ~12 V here but not against the truck bed, install a ground strap between the truck bed and the frame to establish a ground.
The fuse box is under the dash between the steering column and the left side of the car.. the fuse for the tail lights is not listed as tail light but parking light position 8C... I know because I just replaced mine
So you know if you are approaching a car from the front or the back.
Open trunk, locate inside of tail light, unscrew thumb screws behind tail light. Pull out tail light. Be careful not to drop it. Keep one hand on the outside of the tail light.
Begin I removing the tail light connector. Take hold of the tail light, push in and turn at the same time. The tail light will come on. Reverse the process to install your new tail light.
Perhaps the best thing for you to do is get quotes directly from shops. Without knowing exactly what your issue with the tail light is, the best we can do is guess at what it is and the corresponding repair cost.
