Scientists can detect the signature of a possible tornado using Doppler radar. However, they rely on reports from spotters, police, and the general public to know if a tornado is actually on the ground.
They are often dark gray or even black, but not always. In terms of color they could look like fairly ordinary storm clouds.
If you can see the tornado
The main tool meteorologists use is Doppler radar, which can detect a tornado or the rotation in a storm that can produce them. There are also spotters, who report sightings of tornadoes and other weather hazards.
There are two factors: lighting and soil. How the light hits a tornado is important. If a tornado is lit from behind, (relative to the viewer) it will appear dark, if it is lit from the front it will often appear light. The same tornado may appear light or dark depending on where it is relative to your position. The link below shows two pictures taken of the same tornado at about the same time, but from opposite sides. The soil can also affect the color of a tornado. Some tornadoes lift up large amounts of sand, dust, and dirt. When this happens dark soil will give a tornado a dark appearance and light soil will give it a light appearance.

Most likely not. Sometimes animals might know a storm is coming before we do, possibly because they can hear the thunder, but they probably cannot specifically know about a tornado.
There is know way of knowing that. The development of an individual tornado might be predicted, at most, a few minutes ahead of time

That sort of thing is impossible to know.
drizzling dark sky smell
A tornado often appears dark were it is touching the ground be cause the powerful winds of the tornado lift dirt from the ground.
yes!
No. If a tornado is coming you will not have time to board up your windows.
It can be purple or any other color. The color of the lightning has nothing to do with whether or not a tornado is coming.
first look on the weather channel if they are talking about super cell thunderstorms there is a high possibility for a tornado.... go look outside if the sky is dark and a greenish color than that's another sign. hope i helped!!
