The Roman Catholic Church is not right because the Great Schism of 1054 resulted from errors on the part of the Western church. The bishop of Rome attempted to unilaterally alter the Nicene Creed without authority of a meeting of all the bishops. The Roman Catholic Church is no more the original Christian Church than are the Orthodox Churches.

The Roman Catholic Church is not right because it lost its moral authority, resulting in the Reformation. The Protestant leaders acted with due deliberation and prayer, first seeking to reform the Catholic Church, then breaking away for a new start and fresh moral authority.

You measure whether anything is right by measuring and comparing it to the teachings of The Bible. God's Word is never wrong, so if it lines up with that it is right. If not, the Catholic church is wrong.

∙ 9y agoCatholic Answerhere are many ways to know that the Catholic Church "is right" as you put it. The Catholic Church was the only one founded by Jesus Christ. And He personally guaranteed to be with it until the end of time; further He sent the Holy Spirit, and guaranteed to keep the Church from all error. Every single other church, religion, or whatever, was founded by someone in time. Every single Protestant and "Christian" Church (other than the Catholic church) was either a breakaway from the Church that Jesus founded, or a breakaway from one of those. We know that God does not lie, and we can see in history that the Church is the only institution that has survived all these years - just as He guaranteed it would.
You can also know it is right by looking at the thousands of saints and martyrs who have given their lives over the centuries for God and His Church, right up to our own day with St. Maximilian, Blessed Theresa of Calcutta, etc.

First of all, it is just the Catholic Church. It's just Catholic, not Roman Catholic. Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the official Catholic Church. Secondly, other than when the Pope ran most of central Italy, and perhaps some religious Orders in their locales, I don't know that the Catholic Church ever collected taxes. I do know that there are several European countries who collect taxes from all their residents, and one of the beneficiaries is the Catholic Church, but I know of nowhere where the Church herself taxed people.
