Bypass the switch with a jumper & see if you can bump it with a hot wire.

i changed the belt on my 42' craftsman riding mower, belt route is right but may belt is burning up. I don't know if my levers are connected right.
You can get them at any mower shop. Most Lowes and Home Depot stores will carry them also. You just need to know what engine is in the mower.

If you know the battery and connections at the battery are good then it is more than likely a defective starter.
You can actually use zippo lighter fluid I know it sounds weird but it does the trick
You have to buy a new rope, remove the cover from the engine that contains the manual rope starter. There is a spring inside that can fly out and injure you if you do not know what you are doing. My suggestion is that you take the mower or the cover to a lawn mower shop and let them replace the rope if you are not comfortable tackling this yourself. It can be tricky to install the new rope and wind the spring just right.

I need to know how to remove a bolt from a pulley assembly on a Briggs and Stratton 8 hp vertical lawn mower engine. It seems to be rusty. I tied DW40 and vise grips and shaft slips. Any suggestions?

As far as I know - no. But you can get done for reckless endangerment or something like that, get fined and maybe even lose your license that way. You most certainly can . Even on you riding mower.
