Timing belts are changed at a set mileage which is listed in your owners manual. The belt may look good and be ready to break. Change it when that manufacture tells you to change it.
It does not have a timing belt it has a chain
It should be changed every 60,000 miles. I am not sure if it is an interference engine or not.
You will have no symptoms that it needs to be changed. Also looking at it will not tell you whether it needs to be changed or not as it may look good and be ready to break. For this reason timing belts are required to be changed at a set mileage or years interval. Referred to your owners manual as to the maintenance schedule on the timing belt. It varies with manufacturer from 60,000 miles 110,000 miles.
if it looks different
Remove the timing belt cover and inspect the belt or change it every 90K miles.
As far as I know all Honda and Acura cars have belts. With a chain the chain, cam gear and crank gear must be changed and with belt only the belt needs changed.
It is probably not a belt, but rather a chain
check recommended mileage, DO NOT EXCEED
dont know if this helps but i have a 2000 sephia and just had timing belt changed yesterday. on the 2000 they change the water pump with the belt. cost us four fifty for both. dont know if this helps but i have a 2000 sephia and just had timing belt changed yesterday. on the 2000 they change the water pump with the belt. cost us four fifty for both.
If you think it is going bad STOP DRIVING and get it changed immediately. If the timing belt/chain goes while you are motoring it will ruin the engine.
the timing belt needs to be replaced every 100,000 KM. I would change it a little prior to that. If it breaks, you can bend your valves.
When I bought my '02 I was told that it no longer has the timing belt/chain that needs to be replaced at around 60,000 miles (my '96 did have a timing belt that needed to be replaced every 60,000 miles). I have put over 80,000 mi. on my '02 and nice to know I won't be getting surprised by timing belt failure. Did have to have the serpentine belt on the engine replaced recently though.
