Put the back of you hand on your forehead. If it feels cold then you have an elevated temperature. Symptoms of a fever also include sweating unnecessarily, having trouble thinking and simply feeling overheated.
The best way is to use a thermometer. Feeling the forehead or other body parts is not accurate. "Fever" is related to your internal body temperature, not the temperature of the skin surface. However, there are certain symptoms of a very high fever, including what is called "cold sweats" and a general mental disorientation.
There are a number of thermometers commercially available. One of the fastest is the aural thermometer, which can measure the temperature of the eardrum. However, more economical would be the oral thermometer, but it takes about 3 minutes to register a correct reading.
Normal human internal body temperature is about 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. "Normal" temperature deviates from individual to individual, however. You normal temperature could be a degree higher or lower.
If you feel bad, or if you are sweating when it is cool or are finding it difficult to concentrate and have a tendency to "dream" in an awakened state, you may have a fever. If you can take a temperature reading yourself, do so. If not, maybe a friend or relative could do it.
If you have a high fever, generally 103º or over, be in touch with a medical professional. If you are feeling quite poorly, the same advice applies.
WikiAnswers does not give medical advice. In all cases, if you feel ill and want good advice, you should see a doctor.
