Locating on a 1998 prizm - fine idea
The 1996 Geo Prizm heater core is located behind the kick plate on the passenger side of the passenger compartment. The kick plate will need to be removed in order to view the heater core.
The '99 Chevy Prizm has a timing chain, not a timing belt, so it does not need to be replaced.
A good chance you have a faulty heater core
Bad heater core?

Check coolant level? Bad thermostat? Heater core airbound? Temperature control cable not adjusted properly?
the Chevy prizm doesn't have a timing belt it has a timing chain. it doesn't need to be changed unless you hear something or 150k miles. it cost usually 300 with a 90 dollar kit hope that helps Phil
