On a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer :
The automatic transmissions are ELECTRONICALLY controlled , so there is no
modulator
The 2004 Mercury Mountaineer does not have an automatic transmission fluid dipstick . I know that the 2002 and newer Ford Explorer four door versions do not have a dipstick for the automatic transmission fluid level .
The transmission doesnt have a modulator. Shift points and pressures are controlled by the PCM.
You can check the transmission fluid, there is a little window on the side of the transmission on the drivers side that shows the fluid level and you can also add transmission fluid on that same side. There is no dipstick to check the level.
i know theres a modulator on a chevy th 400 tranny that can leak fluid bad and prevent it from shifting. Its on the transmission itself.
When the vacuum from the engine sucks in transmission fluid from the bad modulator and shows up as heavy blue smoke out the exhaust.
I don't know need to find out
Yo man i dont know but ford Rocks man ROCK ON.
