Actually dogs bleed right before they are "in heat" and then can get bred for about 9 days after that. And no. they should not bleed if they are pregnant. If this is occurring go see your vet!

In general, no - when a dog is in heat she is ovulating and is fertile. Outside of her heat cycle, she is typically not fertile because she is not ovulating. However, breeding very close to her heat may result in some puppies as she may still have some eggs that are fertile.

Every entire (not spayed) female dog comes into heat every six months for about two weeks. This does not mean that she gets pregnant, but it means that she is ready to mate. Therefore, if the dog does not mate with any males during her heat then she will not get pregnant.

6 weeks ago i would have said that was impossible .. however my Siberian husky has just had her second heat and it was a silent heat .. she didnt bleed . shes nearly 15 months old . there is a condition called pyometra which is a womb infection that can kill . theres two variations of it, one is called open .. and the dog will lose discharge (and it is very gross it smells horrendous i had a dog that had it) . will go off food and be very stiff and sluggish due to the poisoning of the bloodstream and the body . the other is closed pyometra . the cervix seals off and the womb fills with fluid and pus which in turn poisons the dog . both conditions are very dangerous and can be fatal. get your dog vet checked to make sure its none of these conditions and if alls well . just enjoy the fact theres no mess . and rest assured that the next heat in six months time will probably be a normal one. but be aware that she can still get pregnant even though its a silent heat.

Is it too late to get your dog fixed after they start bleeding?

No. My dog was well into having heat (dog period) and then had puppies before we got her fixed and she's been fine and sterile ever since. Another Answer: You can have your dog spayed while in heat or even after heat if she has been bred. Some vets charge more if they are in heat or pregnant. But it's perfectly safe for your dog.
