the only sports i know what knights played were jousting and sword fighting
Gladiators were slaves and they fought in the Colosseum for the entertainment of others Romans that were not slaves. They didn't know what they would be facing but they only got to choose one weapon. That weapon was either life or death.
When and how was it built? What was its purpose? How is it being conserved? Do we know what part in history, if any, it played? What were the approximate years of its intended operation?

We don't know who was the architect of the Colosseum. We know that the emperor Vespasian ordered it built, but the name of the man or team of men who actually designed it and carried out the project has been lost.
