If you are referring the string "Microsoft Word", there are 13 character not including the space between the two words. :-) Yeah, I know; I crack myself up.
Open the document in question, and click on Tools. Then select 'Word Count'. This will tell you the number of pages, words, characters with and without spaces, paragraphs, and lines.

There is only one word processing software called Word - that is by Microsoft that I am aware of. If you need to know go to your start menu and look under "Programs". If you don't see it on that menu it may be in that menu in a "Microsoft Office". Then again you could always ask your employer for clarification.
