Fish lay eggs. They don't bear live offspring.

SECOND OPINION: Yes, but only half of an answer. Females about to lay make a "nest" in small rocks and lay their eggs there, so after the goofy male fish comes and fertilizes them with his cloud of sperm in the water, which then penetrate eggs and then the baby fish develops inside of that egg., living on fluids in the egg itself. With any luck at all, many of the now-sticky eggs will attach themselves snugly down between those rocks to prevent their being eaten by other not-so-nice hungry fish. The female mother fish hovers over her "nest" to protect her eggs and tiny hatchlings until they are big enough to quickly get out of harm's way. VERY few of the tiny baby fish live long enough to reach maturity.

THIRD OPINION:

Not all fish lay eggs. Some are livebearers, which means that the baby fish develop inside of the mother, and then the mother gives birth to the live fish. Fish such as Mollies, Platies, and Guppies give birth to tiny baby fish that swim around the tank right after their birth.

Not all fishes "give birth", most are egg layers. Research your type of fish, and find out its way of breading. If your fish is a livebearer and is pregnant (gravid) it will have a dark spot between its anal fin and its ventral fins this is called a "gravid spot". If this is blackish and the fish has a large chubby tummy it is pregnant (gravid). The tell tale sign that a gravid female is either getting ready to, or is actually giving birth, is when she makes sudden dashes from one place to another in the tank for no apparent reason. If you closely observe where she has dashed from, you may well see a youngster or two or more hovering close to the substrate.

Well, to tell if your female guppy is pregnant, look for the gravid spot (A dark spot right before the anal fin) It will grow large. It will be big right before it will give birth. The "tummy" of the guppy will get large and before birth will look huge. It usually takes a month for the babies to develop. (Give or take a week) Each female guppy is different. On the day of birth you can sometimes see the eyes of the babies in the mother. Hope this helps@

What should you do when your guppy is giving birth. My guppy has a big blob on her side and I am pretty sure she is giving birth what should i do. there is 1 other guppy in her tank?

There are several things you can do. The first....is nothing. Especially if the birthing has already begun. The guppies are likely to try eating the fry (babies) but a few may survive. But try describing the blob a bit better. Because they don't give birth on their side.

Signs of guppy birth?

If you have a female guppy, and then you see that she has lost size and you have some small fish in with it that you didn't put in there, I can assure you that you would probably be correct if you assume that your Guppy has given birth.

What signs to look for when your guppy has finished giving birth. Ive got 3 pregnant guppies in a tank and not sure which one has had the 12 babies but they all still have the gravid spot?

You will have to go by the size of their tummies. Once a guppy starts breeding she will always have a gravid spot.
