Good question. I dated during the 50s and it was classed as "going steady" and you usually got the guys class ring or his football ring. If you split-up you were to give the ring back. These days they don't do those things, so I would think if you are dating almost every weekend and doing things together off and on during the week it can be classed as having a boyfriend/girlfriend. If in doubt you can say, "Are we going on out on a steady basis." You deserve the answer because if you are going steady it's sort of like being engaged and you aren't to date other people. You shouldn't be trying to go out with a girl that already has a boyfriend. You have to respect the fact that she is with another guy and respect him and her. You can be her friend and that's it. If she knows that you like her and she likes you back she should know what to do, if she wants to be with you or her boyfriend.
