Your computer is slower than normal or it takes you to web pages you don't go to. Or pop up messages come on the screen. You can also have "spyware" which can do the same thing, but generally can be removed easier than a virus. See "Microsoft Security Essentials" for a free, well designed, and effective virus an spyware monitoring program. Search Google for it.
Two other programs that will clean a computer is "Malwarebytes", and "Combofix".
