Most puppies are born at 30 to 60-minute intervals. It is possible, however, for the mother to take a break of 2-4 hours and start delivering again. If you had the mother x-rayed to confirm the presence of puppies you will already know how many puppies she was carrying. If not, and if you have any concerns that she might not be done, take her to the vet for an x-ray to confirm she is done. If she retains a puppy it will almost certainly die, but it can also kill her and any other puppies not yet delivered. You should take your bitch in to the veterinarian for an examination after having a litter of puppies even if you think she is done.

When the puppies are young the mom will eat more to feed them. At around four weeks you'll probably know the dog had puppies because you'll see them running around your house or hear shill barks. Plus the mom might share her food. Shortly after the mom will stop producing milk so the puppies will have to start eating puppy food made just for puppies.

There are often long breaks between puppies,so it is hard to tell. however, wait a few hours and if nothing happens, and the dog seems comfortable, then that usually means she's through. Before delivery, I'd get her to a vet so they can give you an estimate of how many pups there is going to be.

Go to the vet and ask if you can get your pet x-rayed! If you don't have enough money for that, than you can always check for yourself if you know what I mean, talking hand up butt status, lol! But, if your dog has had a x-ray previously, like when she had the babies in her, then check those x-rays and count the pups and count the pups that have come out! If there is still one in there, then you may want to call a vet!

Hope This Helps!

Some of the ways you know puppies are about to be born are:

~the mother is panting for breath

~she looks abit pudgey; this is from the puppie moving inside of her; ready to come out.

I hope that this is usefull to all of your needs.

You will start to see the dog convulsing (like pushing) and you should see something start to come out from the back.

Why is our dog having problems nursing puppies?

Your dog is a female right? Because if it is, and its having problems nursing, there could be multiple reasons for this. If, for your dog, it is the first time having puppies, it oughter know instinctively what to do, and you should consult a breeder or a vet. They may need to do a number of bonding like things to get the mother to accept them as she may of rejected them at birth.

How do you know if your dog has more puppy inside?

There is really no way to know unless you have had an ultrasound or radiograph done by a veterinarian. If you had rads/ultrasound done, then you could count the number of puppies born vs. the number of puppies the vet said the dog would have. Otherwise, if the dog has been struggling and pushing for over an hour with no puppy produced, get in to the vet's office ASAP!
