If you take the egg in question and spin it on a hard, flat surface; if it stays in one spot it is good. If it spins of center it has gone bad because the yolk becomes dense and makes it heavier on that side.
Reader97: A simple way is to put the egg in a bowl of cold water and if the egg sinks its fresh if it floats it rotten.
I AGREE! you stole my question.... :) ah well your right i guess....
This is a bit old fashioned but my Grandma taught me it. Basically, fill a bowl with water and add some salt. Put the egg into the bowl. If it floats it's bad and needs to be put in the bin! But if it sinks it's fresh!
Hold it up to a light and you should see some air bubbles, if the air bubbles are big (4mm and over) then the egg is stale
Putting it in water can sometimes determine a good egg from a stale egg. A stale egg will float, while a fresh egg will sink.
If an egg has a strange texture to it while cooking, it can also mean that the egg is stale.
Fill a jug/bowl with water just deeper than the height of your egg. Place the egg in the water. If it floats it is fresh.
I actually think it's the other way around, if it floats it's rotten. This is because of an air pocket that forms just under the shell layer.
Place the egg in a cup of water. If it floats it has gone bad but if it sinks it is still good to eat. As a rule eggs from your own hens will be far fresher than any eggs from a store.
When you pick up eggs each day them are fresh. If you have chickens on your place them are considered fresh eggs if they can get bugs or grass.
answer 1: fresh eggs have vibrant eggshells, old eggs have bad odor ^_^
A fresh egg will sink in water while an older egg will float.
Fill a cup with 8-10 oz. Water plus about 1/4 teaspoon salt. Place egg in water. If it sinks, it's good. If the egg floats, it's a doubter.
You can not tell by just looking at it if it is fresh or not.

Because the in the egg have a life
It all depends really, but if you put the egg in cold water you will get your answer. If it floats its rotten and if it sinks its still a farm fresh egg.
Eating
Fresh eggs float in salt water because the density of salt water is more than the density of the egg. But fresh eggs do not float in fresh water because the density of water is less than that of the egg. Salt increases the density of water.
The average egg has about 80 calories in it.
A rotten egg will float (usually just slightly) as it contains a larger air space. The yolk of a rotten egg will be found at the bottom of the egg when cut open (after being hard boiled) and a fresh eggs yolk will be close to centred.
In a denser liquid.A raw egg will sink in fresh water, but float in salt water. It also depends on how fresh the egg is.Set an egg in cold water-If the egg stay at the bottom - it is fresh. If the egg is at an angle on the bottom - it is still fresh and good to eat.If the egg stands on its pointed end at the bottom - it is still safe to eat but best used for baking or boiled eggs.If the egg floats - it is best discarded.
