It is better to know the risk factors for kidney damage rather than try to identify when your kidney is going to fail.

Diabetes, some drugs, dehydration and certain infections can cause the kidneys to fail. So if you've got any risk factor get your kidney function tested.

In the end stages - urine output is reduced, swelling of feet or of the entire body can develop and basically the body starts to retain the toxic products which the kidney would normally get rid of.
