Just press the dog's back gently and make the dog to sit. After it sits say gently, 'SIT'. You can also say your Dog's name before of after 'SIT'. Allow the dog to stand.
Repeat this four to five times, your dog will automatically learn. Dogs are fast learners. But be polite in your words. Remember you are teaching for the first time and make sure that you succeed in your actions. Be clear in your words.
Do not over load your dog with too many actions at one time. May be two or three a day is sufficient. You can also have dog biscuit(s) to give him once he does the actions correctly. All the Best!
learn how to sit or lay down
shake, roll, sit, stay, shake
if you know how you can make you dog sit, when it sit, just slide its head one more time, this will make your dog lie down.
First, make sure they are no distractions around. Such as the TV on, or your child playing with a toy. Put a dog treat in the palm of your hand. Close your hand into a fist. Reach out your hand in front of you. Your dog will most likely sit. Say "Sit" and give him the treat. Repeat. Don't get angry if your dog does learn. Do a little training one day and a little the next. Also some dogs are also not ready to learn. Just be calm. Your dog will learn it when they are ready.

However, there are a few cats that do learn very simple tricks, but teaching a cat takes much, much longer and constant training than teaching a dog.
