This looks like another oversight in the games (as was the fan on Shrink Ray Island).
There does not seem to be any arrangement made for leaving the game, other than going back (right) across the three scenes (Ferris Wheel, Eskimo Village, Circus Acts). You could try letting yourself be apprehended, which would send you back to the start, the place where you entered from the train. Going back aboard would let you ask the conductor to give you an exit from the island.
Haunted House Card?
However, a sure way to leave any island is to acquire the Haunted House from the Poptropica store. Entering the Haunted House game, then leaving, you are thrown to the Island Map. From there, you should be able to rejoin the train as if you stepped off for awhile. *If you leave Astro Knights Island in this way, your spaceship parks on top of the castle.)
