You may need to acquire a VOM (volt-ohm-meter) - the really cheap ones will do nicely for this. With the power OFF, you can check any wiring for continuity. Start by checking the positive wires (usually the red ones) one at a time with the black lead firmly attached to chassis ground. Most Cigarette lighter faults are caused by the spring loaded fingers inside the unit getting bent by the use of accessories this creates a dead short inside the unit try this first good luck
