Remove the spark plug. Use a small piece of rope, nylon is best. about 1/4" or smaller diameter. Stuff it into the cylinder as much as will fit. It stops the piston from moving, which also stops the shaft from turning. Will not harm the motor. Leave enough rope hanging out so removal is easy. Up to 2' of rope is enough depending on its diameter.

Why don't rear wheels turn if front halfshaft broken on 4x4?

If your transfer case doesn't have a power divider lock, then the torque from the gear rotation will follow the path of least resistance - which, in this case, would be the front shaft, which will have significantly less resistance.

How do you replace the rear wheel bearings on a 1996 gmc jimmy 4 wheel drive?

-Raise and support the vehicle. -Remove rear wheels and disc brakes or drums . -Drain differential oil. Remove differential cover. -In the differential housing there is an 8mm lock bolt that holds the pinion shaft in place remove that. -Remove the pinion shaft. -Remove the C-lock from the button end of the axle shaft. For that you will have to push in on the axle shaft. It will move freely with the pinion shaft out. The pinion shaft holds the two axle shafts apart. -With the C-lock out you can pull the axle shaft out. - You will need an axle bearing puller to remove the bearing. Pull the bearing and the oil seal out. -Clean everything nice and neat with brake parts cleaner. Wipe with clean towel. -Install new bearing and oil seal. You will need a bearing and race setter. (It helps to freeze the bearing before installation.) -Install the clean axle shaft. -Install C-lock. -Install pinion shaft. -Install pinion shaft lock bolt. Use blue thread locker paste so it doesn't come loose from the vibration. -Remove the remaining of the gasket from the differential and pan. Use a razor blade don't scratch it. -Install gasket and differential cover. -Add the differential oil. -Install brake rotors or drums, tires. If you have any doubts take it to a shop. You have to be really precise.
