with a key
A valet key will not open a trunk or glove compartment and is used when you let someone else operate the vehicle. Primarily used for parking attendants.
Press the button- then lock the glove compartment using your normal key, Now the trunk button down on left by the fuel door release button will not work - if you have the original "valet" key that came with the car, you can give it to a valet parking attendant and they cant get in the trunk or the glove compartment (of course you can't give them the key that you normally use which can open everything).
Check inside your glove compartment and make sure you have the trunk switch set to open with the button. This is a safety feature for valet parking.
Its a valet key because it does not allow access to the trunk and glove box.
The valet key operates the ignition switch and the drivers door lock. It is cut so as to block any access to your glove compartment or the trunk. Made speciifically for giving to the valet parking attendants when your car is being parked by a valet service.
Make sure you're not using the valet key. It will not open the trunk, center console armrest, or the glove compartment. It will only have one side cut, with the other completely uncut.
What do you mean by "valet mode"? If you mean the trunk release button won't work, there's a valet switch inside the glove compartment that activates and deactivates it. Just turn it off. OR You use the black key in the trunk keyhole which is located in the xk8 emblem. The Keyhole is located between the x and k. That should take it of valet mode.
Depends on what is wrong. I'd guess, however, that the problem is that you have stuffed your glove compartment too full and inadvertently depressed the "valet switch" button. See Valet Switch in this forum.
valet keys do not allow access to glove box and trunk
The 1996 Chevy Corsica trunk release button is located in the glove compartment. The trunk release button will be on the left-hand side of the glove compartment.
Check for a valet switch in glove compartment, not sure if it should be "on" or "off" , I believe it should be "off". But switch it to see if that works.
Make sure you are not using the valet key. Amanti's come with a set of keys (2) that can unlock everything, driver's door, glovebox and trunk lid. There is also a third key designated for valet use, allows you to disable trunk release and then lock glove box with master key. This way the valet cannot look throughout the trunk or glove box but he can lock the car and start it.
