There are many different theories about caring for belly button piercings.

I got mine done yesterday and the leaflet says to mix up a saline solution to use a few times a week on normal piercings, and twice a day on problematic ones.

1/4 salt and warm clean water in a mug. Dip a flat cotton pad in the solution and soak your belly in it for 5 minutes.

However, I only plan to do this every other couple of days. Because my best friend got hers done a week ago and started using this solution twice a day, now hers is oozing yellow chunks out of it and I'm sure i don't want mine to do that.

I've bought some Savlon antiseptic wound spray in the blue bottle with a pink lid. You can get it from superdrug or any pharmaceutical store. I literally flood my piercing with that, leave it for five minutes, soak a cotton pad in clean, warm water and then squeeze the water on to my belly button and let it run off.

Mine is very very sore at the moment so I'm not prepared to touch it.

Last night, when it was at its worse, covered in blood and such, I pushed the bigger ball so that the little ball sticks out just a little bit more, just so that I can see the top ball's clean and not showing any signs of infection. But it was very, in fact, extremely sore and stung alot.

I wouldn't recommend twisting and pushing it until after a few weeks, just so that its easier to change your piercing when the time comes.

Infections, side effects and healing issues are all points you need to discuss with your professional body piercer BEFORE you get the piercing done. You also need to discuss aftercare for the piercing, this should be followed up with written aftercare instructions for your piercing. No professional body piercer will force you to purchase aftercare products, this is a purchase that is up to you and they can only recommend specific products but they can force you to buy what they have.

Listen to what you are told and follow the aftercare to the letter and remember if you are having issues with bumps and lumps or discharge go back to the shop that did the piercing and talk to the piercer. They must help you resolve any healing issues you may be having. Don't solicit advice from anyone who is not a professional body piercer, just because one thing worked for someone else doesn't mean it will work for you. Healing issues need to be looked at first hand so the problem can be recognised and resolved, the internet is just a guessing game.

Well, what I did was... every night before going to bed i took polysporin and covered my belly button where it hurt and I put a band aid over it and the next day I felt a difference already... do that for about a week and it won't hurt anymore. the thing that i think irritates the belly button is when you sleep u move around and it tends to get stuck either in your shirt or your covers... hope this helps :)
