If you are looking for your own user name, you will not be able to sign in without a user name; the only way for you find out your password is to send it to your email, but only if you know your email address. You may try signing in with Facebook. Other than that you can't your just going to make up a new one. Sorry!
If you are trying to find a specific user and know the user name, you can use the search feature. Click on the magnifying glass in the top right, change the search to "members", and then search for the user name.

Whoever answers the question it will come up on the bottom. Click there name and click recommend user, or you can search a spefic user by clicking your profile and clicking fid friends.
If it is a registered user, their user name will show up in the history as well as at the bottom of the page. If the user is not registered, you will only be able to view their IP address. That is the 00.0000.000 style numbers that you sometimes see.
