You drain the old gear oil by removing the drain screw. Replace the rubber washer seal with a new one and reattach the drain screw. Remove filler cap and fill in 3 qts of 75w-90 gear oil all the way to the top of the reservoir Replace filler cap. Check for leaks. Drive around and check again for leaks.

all new manual transmissions have internal linkage, so it would be lubricated by the gear lube inside the transmission. First make sure the gearcase is full, if it is still giving you trouble you can pull the shifter boot from the floor and put a few drops of gear lube where the shifter enters the transmission.

Is it a manual or automatic gearbox? Both the automatic and the manual require Dexron/Mercon.
I'd bet that the clutch is dragging, not releasing fully.
