A notepad screen will open, and in the DefaultBox (which is where it opens), you should see the following two lines somewhere in it...
Template=Firefox_Bookmarks_DirectAccess
Template=Firefox_Phishing_DirectAccess
Most likely the bookmarks reflated line is missing. Add it and save.

I have made one for all my bookmarks and now have a tidy toolbar, where I have organised everything into labelled folders that give me drop down menus. Not only do I have a folder for Bookmarks, but also one for article sites I use etc. All accessible with 2 clicks AND it was FREE!

It saves nothing, except for bookmarks (if you make a new bookmark, it is still there after you quit Private Browsing) and downloads. This applies to Firefox, I know not about IE's inprivate features.
