Although I have never attempted to do this, it would seem possible to drill out the Baseball with a power drill and then to use a quick set epoxy cement to anchor the baseball onto the gear shift arm. I'd suggest you first try to measure the diameter of the gear shift arm and then select a drill bit just a size smaller. Then drill at least 3/4 the way through the baseball to ensure a good mount upon the gear shift arm. Before injecting the epoxy into the core you have drilled out you would be best advised to be certain the ball will screw onto the arm tightly. Quick set epoxy, available at most hardware stores, should set up in about five minutes.
Make sure you push in the clutch.
I have a 94 Firebird and on the bottom of the shifter knob there is a "U" shaped clip. You will have to shift into L1 to see it since it is on the front of the knob. Once you pull out the clip, it slides off and you can replace it with whatever kind you wnat but make sure the "push to shift" function is on the new knob.
There is a plastic piece inside the gear shift console that breaks and makes it impossible to move out of park without special effort. Do not try to force the gear shift or you will just make things worse.
Zubie make her dance!
To fix a gear shift light, the first thing that needs to be done is checking the fuse box to make sure that all fuses are intact. The reason you would fix a gear shift light is, so you know what gear you are in. Driving in the wrong gear can cause transmission problems.
To remove a automatic shift knob in mk4 jetta or gulf 1.you need to make sure the shifter is all the way down in 2nd gear. 2.After the shifter is down you need to pull the button off. You may have to pull hard but dont worry you wont break it. (if it were an egg on its side, grab what would be the top and bottom of the egg if that helps) 3.once the button is off, there is an internal piece that will be exposed. you must pull that piece out also. use pliers if you cant grip it with our fingers. 4.now with a knife or a firm grip pull the chrome piece at the base of the shift knob down. 5.after that the shift knob should slide right up.
In a manual transmission between the gears. If one fails it will make it very difficult or impossible to shift in to the lower gear, i.e. if the 2nd gear synchronizer goes out you cant shift from 3rd to 2nd gear
maybe you broke something!
If one is interested in purchasing a replacement shift knob it is recommended to check out popular stores like Auto Zone or Rock Auto. Also, Amazon may offer these as well. Make sure to check out the local listings in one's area.

Sounds like your hi gear may have gone out. Take it to a tranmission shop they can run a check for you to make sure.
