If you want to make the butterfly stitch real bad, I bet you've already googled up some tutorial sites, but they just don't work out. It's actually simpler than you can imagine. All you have to do is make loops into loops, just like the beginning of the tutorials. Then just keep on adding loops and loops inside them, but be careful, a common mistake (just like the kind I made when I'm doing this stitch) is that you have to do everything in a pattern. That means if you overlap and make a loop from under the loop, then you have to keep on doing that when you make other loops otherwise you won't have a pattern. sure if you understand the tutorials you can follow along that. but be careful not to make a mistake or you'll have to start all over!
To create a butterfly stitch you will need two Scooby strings six inches long. Tie the two string into a knot, and create a loop. Bend the left strand under the other creating another knot. Repeat until you reach the end..
Gather a crochet hook and yarn or string. Make a slip knot. Put slip knot on your hook. Wrap the yarn around the hook from back to front and pull it through the loop of yarn on your hook. That is one chain stitch. Repeat to make the length of chain that you need.

Cross Stitch is a term used to stitch designs on linen or fabrics to make pictures, ornaments or embellish clothing. Is it agricultural? If you use 100% linen to stitch on, I guess it could be.
Satin stitch is regular embroidery, not cross stitch. It is basically straight stitches alongside each other across the shape to fill in.
shell over shell means make a shell in the middle stitch of the shell below .. if your shell is a 5 stitch shell then make a shell in the 3rd stitch of the shell below .......... if it is a 7 stitch shell make the shell in the 4th stitch of the shell below .... etc .. you are making a shell over the existing shell in the middle stitch ..
