well you get a piece of wood that is 3 dimentional piece of wood and you cut it to the length you want then you get a flat piece of wood and you screw or hammer the nail to the scratch post then you get some old carpet that your cat can scratch and use a staple gun to staple the rug on the post. And there you have a scratch post. If you don't get this please ask me if you have any questions on my bio bord
What has always worked well for me is to take the kitten or cat to the post and take their from paws and scratch the post with them and praise them. But the best help to get them to do that on their own is to rub catnip all over the scratching post to entice them to want to go to it. It has always worked for me and I have had cats that I have not de-clawed and my last one is now 13 years old and I have never had a furniture scratching problem with him. I also clip his toe nails on a regular basis, which helps keep that from happening, because that is why they scratch in the first place, they are trying to file their nails themselves.
Creating a cat scratch post is an easy project. It is necessary for owners to provide their cats a scratch pad, so they stay away from the furniture. House cats are notorious for tearing up furniture and carpet to sharpen their claws. Items found around the house are the only tools that an owner needs to create a cat scratch pad. With a little glue, and a lot of cardboard, a house cat will be happy to stay away from the furniture. Instead of the costly repair and replacement of furniture, an owner can create a cat scratch pad with minimal cost.
Anyone who has owned a cat has had to shoo them away from the furniture. Sharpening their claws is as necessary to a cat as keeping clean, and owners cannot discourage this behavior. Owners can create an outlet for their cat to do what is natural to them.
Items already around the house will construct a pad to keep kitty away from the furniture. Cats have to scratch for their claws to stay healthy. Introduce them to a cat scratching post. Place the cat's feet on it as you hold the cat in an upright position and rub the feet on the post. Sometimes placing a toy or the scent of cat nip on the post will intice them more. Continue to encourage the cat to use the post. Eventually, it should get the hint. You don't want the cat to never have something to scratch. Their claws could become abnormally long or twisted and cause them and you problems. If your cat has a particular place he/she likes to scratch, then you could place the post in front of it and after a week or 2 put the post a little bit away from the spot. Continue that and eventually your cat will seek out the post on its own.
