For this answer i will explain how to make a bronze Dagger.
1)Take some copper and Tin ore and smelt it in a furnace to get a bronze bar.
2) use the Bronze bar on an anvil while you have a hammer in you inventory
3) Select the option "Bronze Dagger"
4) two seconds Later you have a brand new Bronze dagger!
