Basically, "Fig Newtons" are a "jelly roll" with the "cookie" being made first,

then a fig puree spread over half of the cookie,

then the other half of the cookie folded over it

(for the record, Nabisco doesn't refer to it as a cookie!).

Make some dough, add some sugar and mashed oats to it, MASH up some figs.put flat dough in the oven until it is 2/3 done. Take out dough and put some fig mash in the middle. Wrap the dough around the figs.Cook the other 1/3 until it is done.
