If the pool you are trying to heat is 8000 gallons, and you pump 4 gallons per minute through the coil, and raise it 5 degrees on its way through the pipe, it will take 16.5 hours to (and if you want to move it faster, you need even more pipe) gain 165,000 BTU's, which means you will have raised the temperature of the pool about 2.47 degrees, if there was NO heat LOSS(which there is,evaporation mostly, as well as conduction through the bottom and sides,worse of course on an above ground pool). You would also need a good sunny day.. the problem is also, that it takes so long during the day to heat up, by the time its getting warm, the sun goes down, and it cools right down. Better off just making your own outdoor woodboiler, and heating the pool with that..then you can have a nice bonfire(or campfire) and a night time pool party. Just put a T on the filter jet pipe, and divert some water through a heat exchanger. Rockin.
