Often, movies like "American Pie: Band Camp" are what people think of when marching band comes to mind. However, marching band is really hard work! There are a couple things you can do to prepare for an important audition. First, practice your music while sitting down. Don't try to march and play music at the same time right away. The results could be disastrous! You've got to take baby steps. Once you feel like you've mastered your audition music, then you're ready to get up and walk while playing. Find a hard surfaced place where you feel comfortable. This could be a driveway, outdoor track or on the sidewalk. Wherever. It's really up to you. The night before your audition, make sure to get a decent amount of sleep, because a sleep deprived brain never comprehends music well, or at least not in my experience! The morning of the audition, eat a good breakfast and relax by doing some yoga or going on a quick walk. This way, your mind is focused and ready. Finally, you're ready for the audition! Just remember that your director wants you to do well. They're rooting for you. Don't psyche yourself out or say you're not good enough, because positive thoughts really are the key to achieving your goals! Good luck!
