If you press command-shift-4 you can outline a particular area to take a more concise screen shot. Start at the top left corner of what you want to copy and drag the cursor across to the other side then drag it down to the bottom right corner. Once you try it you'll get it right. ∙ 12y agoPressing the Command, Shift and #3 keys will capture the whole screen. Pressing the Command, Shift and #4 keys will change the mouse pointer to cross hairs that you drag to select the area you want to capture; or pressing the Spacebar (after Cmd shift 4) will change the mouse pointer to a camera icon which will capture an image of the window that it is over when you click. There is a Grab utility in the Utilities folder (within the Applications folder) which offers further options such as a timed capture or changing the mouse pointer etc.
